Time Capsule 2004
A woman's right to control her own body.
The Arctic National Wildlands Refuge.
Affirmative Action.
The good opinion of the world.
The First Amendment.
Science.
A volunteer army.
The slow-but-steady march toward human rights.
Probably some of these will survive until 2008. I wonder which ones.
Someone once said that a people get the government they deserve. I hope that's not true. I fear that maybe it is.

I'm glad to see this has not turned you into a self righteous, over-reacting, partisan windbag! LOL!
Your insipid mention of the loss of a "volunteer army" is just Democratic talking points (aka outright lies) Bush has NEVER indicated a desire to re-instate the draft, and has in fact opposed it. I guess that does not stop you from spreading that lie further! If by mentioning 'science' you are making a convoluted case that Bush has hindered scientific progress with a non-existent 'stem cell ban' Kerry was fond of mentioning, that too is absolute horse crap. 'Woman's reproductive rights'??? Who is tring to stop that! Hmmm lets look...uh no one of any real consequence! Maybe Alan Keyes! The world's opinion??? C'mon kids! Maybe we should be run by crooks like Chrirac and Kofi Annan! As for Human Rights, because of George W. Bush, generations will live and freedom! What have you done for human rights? Bitch and moan on your site? Its not a matter of people getting the government they deserve, this is a case of out of touch left wingers getting a wake up call, and what they deserve! You should stop finding fault with everyone but yourselves, and instead engage in some collective introspection about what you have done that results in lost elections. This attitude of 'God! These people who vote for Bush have got to be stupid' is whats destroying your ilk and turning off moderates! I'm not gloating, but you folks would be best to stop assigning blame and take a look at yourselves!

Nothing like being gracious in victory, huh?
Draft? Hope not. But if things don't turn around in Iraq real quick, and if we're going to fight terrorism in places like Afghanistan and Saudia Arabia (y'know - places with demonstrable links to 9/11) I don't see how we're going to do it with current staffing levels.
Science and women's rights? You really think they're safe under this Administration, when it doesn't have to at least nod to "the middle" with an eye to reelection? I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. I think the religious fundy nuts are ready to turn on the jets now.
I don't want this country to be run by Chirac or the UN. I also don't want it to be run by a cowboy who's forgotten that the best way to catch outlaws is by rounding up a posse. We know terrorists hate us; we'd do well not to make EVERYONE hate us as well.
And thanks for your advice on how to rebuild the Left. I know it's of deep concern to you. :)
Oh, and...congratulations...I guess.

I think someone needs to be reminded that they are a guest here. I wonder if Rudolfo would be as much of an ass if he were sitting in your physical living room instead of the virtual one. Difference of opinion is great but being a jerk has no place on someone's personal website.
But maybe I'm just cranky. The Internet isn't what it used to be now that everyone is using it.

Actually Michael, the rebuilding of the left is a great concern of mine. Real change only occurs when all sides become involved in a spirited dialouge about the state of affairs in our nation. Progress of any sort will be stifled if one particular group continues to dominate the agenda. If The St. Louis Cardinals intentionally let the Boston Red Sox destroy them, and just stood there, I doubt the World Series victory would mean as much to us now. It would have been nice, but somewhat hollow. If the collective left in this country continues to be an angry, and unfocused debating team, one that seems more interested in preaching to the choir, and badmouthing Bush, they may as well just give up. People can call me a jerk all they want. It does not change the reality of the situation. Without hard work, and debate, as well as in many cases compromise, progress will fail to happen. The mindset of 'Those who oppose us are stupid, or crooked' is not a constructive one. I hope that I have succeeded in making my points in a less antagonistic manner. You folks really did well though. Give yourself some credit. Kerry's popular vote came close to, or exceeded Reagan's. You should be a bit empowered, and happy, about that! Give yourselves a break!

I referred to you being a jerk because of your style (or lack thereof) in your first comment, not for your beliefs. Oh, well!
